Offshore Accommodation Modules & Interior Fit-Out
6Sigma Marine fits out offshore accommodation modules, accommodation containers and ship living quarters in Cape Town, covering fire-rated insulation and panels, fire doors, cabins, wet units, flooring, HVAC and electrical. Steelwork and fit-out are planned together in one yard at Table Bay Harbour.
From bare steel box to a fitted, documented living module, in one Cape Town yard.
6Sigma Marine fits out offshore accommodation modules and ship living quarters, covering fire-rated insulation and cladding, fire doors, cabins, wet units, flooring, HVAC, electrical and furniture. Because the steelwork and the fit-out are done in the same yard, the module shell, penetrations and services are planned together from the start, which cuts rework and handover delays.
A60 and B15 Fire-Rated Insulation and Cladding
Fire integrity is the base of every accommodation module. Insulation, panels and ceilings are installed as complete, certified systems.
- A60 insulation to bulkheads and deckheads
- A60 and B15 wall panels and ceilings
- Penetrations for cables, pipes and ducts sealed with approved systems
- Thermal and acoustic insulation for comfort and noise control
Fire-rated materials and systems are supplied with their type-approval certificates for the module data book.
Fire Doors and Windows
- A60 external weathertight doors
- B15 internal cabin and corridor doors
- A60 fire-rated windows
- Door hardware, closers and seals supplied and fitted
Doors and windows are supplied with their fire certificates and fitted to suit the module or bulkhead rating.
Living Quarters: Cabins, Wet Units and Flooring

- Mess, recreation and office areas inside the module
Galley, mess, laundry and ablution spaces can also be supplied as separate units: see galley, laundry and ablution containers.
HVAC and Electrical
Building services are installed and tested before the module leaves the yard.
- Marine or packaged air-conditioning units, fresh-air supply and fire dampers
- Overpressure (pressurisation) systems for modules in hazardous areas
- Distribution board, lighting, emergency lighting and small power
- Smoke and heat detection, with interface to the installation’s alarm and PA/GA systems
- Data and Wi-Fi provision
- Earthing and shore or platform power connection
- Ex-rated equipment installed by a certified Ex installer
- Plug-in service connections for power, water and sewage
Standards, Testing and Handover
Accommodation modules can be built and fitted out to ISO 10855-1:2018 and DNV 2.7-1 / DNV-ST-E271 requirements for the container structure, subject to project specification and third-party certification. Fire-integrity materials are SOLAS/IMO type-approved products. See also our DNV 2.7-1 offshore containers.
Each module is handed over with a documentation pack:
- Factory acceptance test (FAT) record
- As-built drawings and general arrangement
- Data book with material and fire certificates
- Electrical test certificates and HVAC commissioning records
- Structural certification from the independent certifying body
Ship Living Quarters Refurbishment
The same fit-out trades are available for vessel living quarters, whether the ship is in our yard, in drydock or alongside in Table Bay Harbour. See also our ship accommodation refurbishment page.
- Living-quarters refurbishment and upgrades
- Extra berths, with the steelwork for accommodation extensions
- Fire-damage reinstatement of cabins and corridors
- Insulation and panelling, fire doors, wet units and flooring renewal
- Galley and laundry upgrades and HVAC duct cleaning
Because 6Sigma also handles drydock, steel, piping and electrical repairs, accommodation work can run alongside the rest of the vessel’s repair programme under one contract.
Why 6Sigma
Most accommodation projects need a steel contractor, an outfitter, an electrician and an HVAC installer, each with their own programme. At 6Sigma one project manager runs all of it from one Cape Town yard, so you have a single point of responsibility from shell to handover.
